Summer is Here!

My daughter has been extra-restless these past few days, and I know why. She’s got just a week of school left, and then its summertime! In the Philippines, summer officially begins in April, although for students, summer arrives on the last day of school. I still remember my own summers, when work was just what old people did. Believe me, it was heaven! To honor all the summers that have gone by, I give to you this tiny poem, Simple Joys of Summer. May it remind you of your favorite summers. Enjoy!

I Love Grandparents!

Sometimes, I see a questioning look in my daughter’s eyes. She will say to her grandpa, “why do you have white hair?” or “why is your skin loose?” Children are like that–honest (painfully at times). But then, she forget all these questions when her grandparents play with her–picture-perfect moments!

Happy Father’s Day!

Yey, I finished this poem before Father’s Day! So, yeah, it’s not going to be a belated greeting =) I wrote the poem, Happy Whisker’s Day, for my husband a.k.a. Greatest Dad Ever. I wanted to write about his stubble because he always uses it to tickle my daughter before she sleeps. My daughter, in between gasps and giggles, would always tell him to stop, but I think he enjoys it just as much as she does, so he pretends not to hear her. Seeing them like that is the highlight of my day. To all the fantastic fathers out there, HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!

A Better Late than Never Welcome to 2014!

Ok, so it’s not the start of the year.  Roughly, we’ve hit the first quarter of the year (if using the Gregorian calendar), and we’re about two months in (if using the Chinese calendar).  But, I’ve decided that it’s never too  late to welcome the year 2014.  I am up to a slow start with just one short story to post mainly because I have been busy finishing my first novel for the intermediate reader.  It is currently being edited by my friend Maggie, and I am confident that it is in good hands.  So, while waiting for her comments, I decided to post a short, but definitely sweet story.  I wish I could draw as well as this is best rendered in color.  I think I will be writing more adventures for Chouette and her owlet, Hibbou.  Hope you like it!

And so I begin…

Wow, after weeks of delay, I am finally ready to post my first “official” blog entry. I have tried blogging before, via Multiply (when Multiply was just a fun site, and not a business empire), and I think I tried once or twice to post something on Facebook.  But, I’ve always viewed these outlets as more of a social network thing that you occasionally blog in, not really a blog site.  And so after months of my husband’s convincing, I finally agreed to ‘try’ this blogging thing.  It is a fulfillment of one of the dreams I wrote, which is to make many stories for my daughter to read.  She absolutely loves reading, and at 6 years old, already writes her own short stories (mostly about My Little Pony).  As she progresses in her reading skills, I want to be there, adding fun and fantasy to this world.  At the same time, I also want this site to be filled with craft tutorials.  My daughter also loves to craft with me, and I just want mothers out there to have something that they can do together with their daughters.  So, here’s to many more future entries!  We will see if once a week, I can share either a short story or a craft tutorial.  Thanks for reading!  And so, I begin…
